Foreign Medical Graduates Examination: Everything You Should Know About the Syllabus & Exam Pattern

 

Many Indians who aspire to become doctors study abroad for their medical degrees. They must, however, demonstrate their medical knowledge in accordance with Indian norms in order to practise medicine in India. To be qualified to practise medicine in India, students must pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). Students can now register with state medical councils and the National Medical Commission, which is the Medical Council of India. FMGE Syllabus; In a Nutshell

Three to four months before to the FMGE test, the National Board of Examinations distributes the comprehensive syllabus. The exam is administered twice a year, in December and June. Pre and Para Clinical Subjects and Clinical Subjects are the two sections of the exam. It covers a broad range of medical information necessary for competent medical practice. Each of Parts A and B is worth 150 marks.

Pre and Para Clinical Subjects

Anatomy:There are 17 questions in this part that assess applicants’ knowledge of the composition and arrangement of the human body.

Physiology:This portion consists of 17 questions that evaluate applicants’ understanding of the physiological mechanisms underlying the major organ systems and how those systems respond to different stimuli.

Biochemistry:This portion, which consists of 17 questions, assesses the candidates’ knowledge of hormone interactions, enzyme functions, and metabolic pathways.

Forensic Medicine:This portion, comprising ten questions, focuses on understanding common injuries and poisonings, applying the legal aspects of medical practice, and interpreting autopsy findings.

Pathology:This portion, which consists of 13 questions, tests the applicants’ knowledge of the fundamentals of disease processes, typical pathological findings in various organ systems, and the clinical consequences of such findings.

Microbiology:This portion comprises 13 questions that assess candidates’ understanding of microbes, including their virulence factors and susceptibility to antibiotics.

Pharmacology:This section comprises 13 questions that evaluate candidates’ knowledge of the indications, side effects, and drug interactions of regularly used drugs.

Clinical Subjects

Medicine and Allied Subjects:There are 48 questions in this part covering a variety of subtopics, including medicine (33 questions), dermatology and STDs (5 questions), psychiatry (5 questions), and radiotherapy (5 questions). It evaluates candidates’ knowledge of illness management, diagnosis, and therapy in medicine.

General Surgery and Allied Subjects:covering 47 questions in total, 32 questions in general surgery, 5 questions in anesthesiology, 5 questions in radiodiagnosis, and 5 questions in orthopaedics. This portion assesses the candidates’ understanding of musculoskeletal disorders, imaging methods, anaesthesia, and surgical procedures.

Pediatrics:This part, which consists of 15 questions, is all about treating and caring for newborns, kids, and teenagers medically.

Ophthalmology:This portion, which consists of 15 questions, evaluates applicants’ knowledge of eye conditions and how to treat them.

Otorhinolaryngology:This section comprises 15 questions that assess applicants’ knowledge of illnesses of the ear, nose, and throat and how they are treated.

Community Medicine:This subject, which consists of thirty questions, is centred on community healthcare administration, preventative medicine, and public health.

Obstetrics and Gynecology:This section, which consists of 30 questions, addresses the reproductive health of women, pregnancy, childbirth, and associated medical issues.

The FMGE syllabus has 300 questions in total, encompassing pre-para clinical and clinical disciplines, to assess candidates’ preparedness for medical practice within the Indian healthcare system.
